NOIA MULTIPLE-WALLPAPERS 1.1 for Kde2/Kde3

Noia Multiple-Wallpapers is a set of images made with Gimp (the original image is Noia Wallpaper designed by Carlitus... Thanks!!!! ). I just modified the original image to create a sequence of pictures, from the rising of sun to twilight, then the night comes... the moon appears, afterwards the background turns to black until a new sunset... So days pass in your Kde desktop.
The target is to see a "PSEUDO-ANIMATION" on desktop background, across a sequence of the same picture with different colors and daylights, changing the position of sun and showing the moon after the sunset, and so on.
Moreover, Noia Multi contains a brief program that changes the appearence of the background according to time of the day, in a real-time simulation of the light on your Kde dektop. (Thanks to Tom Deblauwe who has send me this nice program).

*************************************

1) Switching wallpapers one-by-one through Control Panel

TO SET UP the PSEUDO-ANIMATION of Noia Multi Wallpapers, first, copy the directory noia in your /$HOME/.kde/share/wallpapers
or where you like. DO NOT RENAME THE PICTURES, because KDE will display them in alphabetical oder.
Go in the Kde Control Center; now select Look&Feel ---> Background.
In the Wallpaper section select "Multiple Wallpapers" and click on "Setup Multiple".

Click on "Add" button and browse in your directory /$HOME/.kde/share/wallpapers/noia or where you copied the pictures. Now choose Mode "In Order" and set the Interval as you like... (1 Minute is a good interval to make a very cool effect).

2) The wallpaper can change according to your clock! (with the program changewp)

If you like, Noia Multi contains a script to change the appearence of your desktop in accordance with the hour of the day.

  • Open a console terminal, copy the directory noia in /usr/share/wallpapers

IMPORTANT: changewp won't work if the pictures aren't in /usr/share/wallpapers/noia/

  • Enter in the directory changewp

  • Change yourself to root:

      su

  • Copy the files:

      cp changewp* /usr/bin

  • Make sure the permissions are right:

      chmod a+x
     /usr/bin/changewp*

  • Copy the file changewp.conf to /etc/changewp.conf like this:

      cp changewp.conf /etc
      chmod a+r /etc/changewp.conf

You can edit the configuration file and adapt it to your wishes. Every line should contain a time indication ('hh:mm') followed by a tab or a space and then the absolute location of the wallpaper to be shown.

      20:00
     /home/sergio/themes/Noia_multiple_wallpapers_05/wallpapers/noia94b.jpg

NOTE: You should always leave a line with '00:00' in your config.

NOTE 2: If you specify a file in the homedir of your regular user called '.changewp.conf' then this configuration file will be used instead of the general one in /etc/changewp.conf

To start the switching of wallpapers you can:

  • 1) open a console terminal and do the command:
    changewp start
    or...

  • 2) copy the file Startchangewp in your $HOME/.kde/Autostart/
or open your home directory in konqueror and in the 'Go' menu click on 'Autostart'. This opens a new window at '$HOME/.kde/Autostart'. Right click and select:

create new -> Link to application...

A dialog pops up and you must type in a name for the link e.g. 'changepaper'. Now click on the 'Execute' tab and under 'Command:' you must fill in the following:

      changewp start

Close the window and relogin in KDE. Now it should be loaded! You should see in the process table a process 'changewpd'.

  • To stop the switching of the wallpapers execute this command as the user you logged in:

      changewp stop

    Enjoy!

Please send me comments and suggestions, thanks!
